Mahou San Miguel

The brewery was founded on September 29, 1890, in Manila, Philippines (then a Spanish colony), by Spanish entrepreneur Enrique María Barreto under the name *La Fábrica de Cerveza de San Miguel*. The name is derived from the Manila neighborhood of the same name, where the first factory was built. In 1946, the Philippine company decided to expand its operations into Europe and established a subsidiary in Spain. In 1957, an agreement was signed making the Spanish company fully independent.
