Gulpener Bierbrouwerij
Gulpener Bierbrouwerij is a renowned Dutch brewery founded in 1825 by Laurens Smeets in the town of Gulpen (Limburg province). It is celebrated for the title "De Vrije Brouwer" (The Free Brewer), highlighting its long-standing spirit of independence, although in 2026 it will come under the full ownership of the Grolsch brewery (part of the Asahi Group). The brewery stands out as one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly in Europe (B-Corp certified). It employs a local production model, sourcing all raw materials—including water from its own sources, hops, and specific barley varieties—from organic farms within a maximum radius of 40 kilometers (25 miles) of the facility. The brewery aims to produce beer entirely without the use of fossil fuels by 2030.
